Two labourers engaged for demolition of an old building got buried alive when one of its walls collapsed on them at Tagrikanaka near Moosa Bowli of Hussainialam in the Old City on Thursday.

The building owner, Ramakrishna Pandey, wanted to demolish the old building and build a new one. The work was assigned to a contractor and accordingly, on Thursday, eight labourers were engaged for the job.

Ramu (26) and his brother-in-law Suresh (22) were demolishing a wall when it caved in. Both got buried under the rubble and death was instant for them.

Ramu’s father Srinivas too was working at the same site along with five others but they escaped unhurt, Hussainialam Inspector G. Ranveer Reddy said.

Pandey vacated the building four months ago after deciding to construct a new one in its place.

Based on the complaint given by the victims’ relatives, the police registered a case under section 304-A (rash and negligent act resulting in death) of IPC against the contractor and the building owner.
