It was trauma for nearly two hours for two students of University of Hyderabad on their own campus unleashed by four outsiders on Friday evening.

Narrating the assault, investigators on Saturday said the four strangers, all juveniles, repeatedly tried to rape the 19-year-old woman and thrashed her classmate as he came to her rescue.

“When the woman escaped from their clutches and ran for safety, the group chased and caught her. Her classmate Praveen Vijay was beaten black and blue when he resisted them,” Gachchibowli Inspector M. Gangadhar explained. The accused also tried to strangle Praveen with the woman’s belt with an intention to kill him.

“The incident took place around 6 p.m and the four juveniles misbehaved with the woman student and tried to outrage her modesty. After more than two-hours of struggle, the two students somehow managed to escape from the clutches of the assailants,” the Police Inspector said.

Illegal entry

The accused assaulted Mr. Praveen with stones and sticks causing him bleeding injuries. The four later tried, at least four times, to gang rape the woman.

“The four juveniles illegally entered the campus and noticed the duo in a secluded place. They initially tried to rob them and later started sexually assaulting the woman,” Mr. Gangadhar said.

The attackers damaged the mobile phones of the victims and decamped with the booty. Based on the woman’s complaint, a case was registered late on Friday and the police deployed teams to nab the unidentified persons.

Door-to-door search

“The police went around more than 3,000 houses in Gulmohar Park Colony, Netaji Nagar, Nallagandla and Labour Colony around the University campus to identify the accused,” the Inspector said.

On Saturday afternoon, the police apprehended four persons, all juveniles, involved in the case from Gulmohar Park Colony and they were sent to Juvenile Home, Deputy Commissioner of Police of Cyberabad Commissionerate P. Vishwa Prasad said.

Two of the four accused were involved in 20 cases, including 11 bike thefts, in various police stations of Cyberabad, the Deputy Commissioner Madhapur added.
