Nineteen of the 45 victims of the Volvo bus tragedy at Palem in Mahabubnagar district were identified with the help of DNA fingerprinting by the experts of Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Laboratory here on Monday.

Bodies handed over

Three of the 19 identified bodies were handed over to their respective families at Osmania General Hospital morgue. Officials said 16 more victims would be identified by Tuesday morning. So far, identity of 22 victims was established.

On the day of the accident, three victims were identified. Their bodies were given to their respective families the same day.

Names of the identified victims are as follows: Shiva Kiran, Vedapati, Ravi, Najuda Goud, Md. Sardar, Ashutosh Pandey, Akshay Singh, M. Phani Kumar, G. Balasundara Raju, Mary Vijaya Laxmi, Jyothi Ranjan Sahu, Naga Sravanti, Syed Mohammed Jamaluddin, N. Rohiya, V.N. Sri Krishna, Mohsin Pasha and Raghuveer.

Wanparthy DSP B. Srinivas Reddy said all documents required for filing petitions in the court for compensation would be given to the kin of the victims.

Copies of the documents include First Information Report (FIR), inquest report, bus registration certificate, permit, insurance certificate and lease agreement of the transport operator.

Condition improves

The condition of Yogesh, who was admitted to Apollo Hospital DRDO, Kanchanbagh, is better.

The patient, who had received 45 to 50 per cent burns with respiratory burns, is doing better. His facial swelling is getting reduced, he is breathing on his own and maintaining proper oxygen levels and his vitals are normal.

“We have started Yogesh on a liquid diet in small qualities. However, his prognosis is still guarded while the remaining four patients are in stable condition,” said Hospital Administrator, Dr. Samiullah.

Other patients stable

The other four patients including Ayyaz Pasha with 10 per cent burns, Srikar with 22 per cent burns, Rajesh with 15 per cent burns and Mazhar Pasha who has 22 per cent burns are in stable condition, he added.
