Gold being smuggled from West Asia

Around 1.5 kilo of gold was seized from three individuals at Hyderabad airport on Friday. The gold was being smuggled into the city from West Asia.

The three people, in two separate incidents, were arrested by Customs officials and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence respectively. Custom officials apprehended a passengers carrying 600 grams of gold worth ₹17.4 lakh. The person concealed the gold bars in specially made pockets of the trouser to evade detection.

DRI officials seized ₹ 25 lakh worth gold in jewellery, weighing 870 grams, from two passengers who crossed the green channel without declaring their gold. These persons were later spotted outside the airport handing over the gold to another individual. On inquiry, the smuggling came to light. Both the passengers arrived from Jeddah on Friday morning.
