A Class 8 student, who was suffering from a serious kidney problem, committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Punjagutta in the early hours of Saturday.

Police said N. Mahesh (13), who hails from Karimnagar district, first underwent treatment at a corporate hospital in Somajiguda as his kidneys had stopped functioning.

The boy was later admitted to NIMS. He had been complaining of severe stomach pain and back ache due to his ailment, Punjagutta Sub-Inspector K. Ranga Subbaiah said.

The boy’s father, Lingaiah, had offered water to him at around 5.30 a.m.

Soon after, the boy came out of the block and killed himself by jumping from the building. He suffered multiple fractures and died on the spot, police said.
