The enforcement drive was not taken up on Friday because of Bakrid
The traffic police booked 119 motorists for driving vehicles in an inebriated condition on Saturday in their continued drive against drunken driving.
Of these, 89 were riding two-wheelers and 28 four-wheelers.
Police also caught an auto driver and lorry driver for being drunk and driving during the drive which started late in the evening at eight places, including Shenoy Nursing Home, Marredpally, Banjara Hills, RTC Crossroads and near M.J. Market.
The lorry driver was caught near Goshamahal area.
Though the police usually conduct the enforcement against drunken driving on Fridays and Saturdays every week, the drive was not taken up on Friday because of Bakrid.
“We had to suspend the drive on Friday as we had to participate in ‘bandobast’ for Bakrid. However, the drive went on unhindered on Saturday evening,” a senior police official explained.
He said the motorists caught for drunken driving will have to attend a counselling session at the Traffic Training Institute in Begumpet or Goshamahal and later face a trial before a city magistrate.
According to the MV Act, a person can be booked for drunken driving if his blood alcohol levels cross 30 mg per 100 ml of blood.
