Eleven women housed at the State Home in Yousufguda escaped from the premises early on Wednesday. The inmates removed the grills and mesh of the window in the kitchen room located on the first floor of the complex and escaped.

Their escape came to light at around 10 a.m. when the Home staff did not find them on the premises. Of the 11, six are from the rescue home while the remaining from state children home.

“Women rescued from streets, brothels and run-away girls are lodged at the rescue home. We are investigating if any insider helped them escape from the Home,” ACP Punjagutta K Venkateshwarlu said.

On receipt of information the police reached the spot and took up investigation. Senior officials of Women Empowerment and Child Welfare Department also visited the spot.
