The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials on Thursday seized foreign currency in the form of Saudi Riyals and Omani Riyals valued nearly ₹ 1.05 crore in Indian currency from a passenger at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad here.

The passenger completed immigration and security checking formalities and was about to board Dubai-bound Indigo flight when the DRI officials checked his baggage following a tip-off. During interrogation, the passenger said that the currency was obtained from unauthorised dealers and that it did not belong to him. He was carrying it on the behest of someone for delivery in Dubai, an official press release said.

As the foreign currency was obtained from unauthorised dealers by violating the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999, the currency was seized, the release stated. A probe is on.
