The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) would set up toilets in at least 100 government schools and maintain them, GHMC Special Officer Somesh Kumar said here on Thursday.

Speaking to presspersons, he said many schools, particularly schools for girls, in the city do not have toilet facilities resulting in hardships for students and as a social responsibility, the civic body would build the facilities.

Mr. Somesh Kumar said utmost focus would be put on sanitation in the city and officials concerned in all the circles would be made more responsible for the purpose. As part of urban biodiversity drive, a survey of all the vacant lands was to be taken up and greenery planted there. He also assured that road repairs would be taken up immediately on damages being noticed to make driving safer.

The special officer has plans to bring into use subways at Koti Sultan Bazar and RTC crossroads which at present were lying unused. New flooring and ceiling along with steel railing and information boards would be fixed at the subways. Mr. Somesh Kumar also said the officers from deputy commissioners to zonal commissioners would be available for at least one hour for citizens every Monday.
