HYDERABAD: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has asked Collectors to prepare vision documents for different sectors over a 10-year period to facilitate the government to work on that time scale.

Addressing a conference of Collectors of all 31 districts here on Sunday, Mr. Rao wanted them to prepare documents on the present situation in their respective districts and how they visualised their districts to be 10 years later. The living standards of every family should be studied and special programmes taken up for poverty alleviation.

Focus on people

He expressed happiness that the Collectors worked enthusiastically in new districts, visiting hospitals and hostels. The objectives that the government had set for itself would be achieved very soon if they worked in the same manner.

With a 19.5 per cent growth rate, Telangana was at the top of development index in the country. It was possible due to the industrial policy and uninterrupted power. The same growth rate will be maintained in future.

Planned funding

Mr. Rao reminded the Collectors that the government had decided to lay emphasis on sheep rearing because the State had 25 lakh members in the activity.

It was unfortunate that 500 lorries of sheep were imported from other States every day. The State should emerge as an exporter. A programme to promote sheep breeding will be taken up shortly.

The Collectors split into laughter when he said even the IAS officers did not have the skills as sheep rearers who identified each and every sheep in a flock.

They even accepted lambs for maintenance from others on payment and handed them over to the owners after they grew up.

Mr. Rao called for developmental programmes to tap the potential of SCs, STs and women who constituted 75 per cent of the population. The government will allot special funds for SCs and STs.

Further, the Government would ensure that the unspent money in any year will not lapse but be carried forward to the next year.
