Three persons, including two minors who were on a joyride in the small hours of Wednesday allegedly lost their way and took a turn towards the Parliament.
They were questioned for hours before being allowed to leave.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Madhur Verma confirmed the incident.
A senior police officer said that the three persons, including Tarun (20), a resident of east Delhi’s Shakarpur, and two 17-year-olds had lost their way and reached the prohibited area near the Parliament.
Local police called
Security personnel stopped them and called the local police.
“There were five friends on two two-wheelers; three on one and two on the other. All of them had gone to India Gate and wanted to go to Bangla Saheb Gurudwara. Two on one vehicle were behind the three of them on the other,” the officer said.
While the two of them were well aware of the prohibited area, the three on the other vehicle were not, the police said.
After they were stopped, a PCR call was made around 2.30 a.m. and the three were handed over to the local police.
They were taken to the police station and procedures in case of suspected breach of security protocol were followed. Security agencies including Intelligence Bureau and Special Cell of the Delhi Police were informed.
“The three were questioned for about four hours by the agencies. They said they had no wrong intention and that they had just lost their way. Their claims were verified and they were released in the morning,” the officer said.
‘Not drunk’
The police said that the youths were not found drunk at the time of the incident.
