A Delhi court has sentenced a youth to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl at Usmanpur in east Delhi in 2014.

Additional Sessions Judge Sanjay Sharma convicted and sentenced accused Sonu alias Surender on the basis of evidence by the victim, her mother, father and brother. The medical examination report also corroborated the crime.

“The victim narrated and deposed all the acts of the accused, right from her taking by the accused from her cot from outside her room to his room after tying her hands, legs and mouth, committing rape with her and then trying to conceal her under the bed. Her testimony was duly corroborated by her brother and mother,” the Additional Sessions Judge said.

Medical evidence

“The allegations made by the victim have also been corroborated by the medical evidence. It was deposed by the doctor that she had examined the victim. She proved the alleged history given by the victim, which was also similar, i.e., that the accused had taken the victim while she was sleeping to his room, closed the door and committed penetrative sexual assault. The medical evidence is further corroborated by the forensic science lab test result,” the Judge said.

“In view of the above discussion , it has been proved by the prosecution beyond reasonable doubt that accused Sonu alias Surender had taken the minor victim to his room and committed penetrative sexual assault upon her on June 23, 2014,’’ the Judge further said.

Convict fined

He also fined the convict ₹2,000 for the offence punishable under Section 376(2)(i) and (n) IPC. Since the convict expressed his inability to pay compensation to the victim, the court directed the Delhi State Legal Services Authority to pay suitable compensation to her.
