A 21-year-old woman was found dead with her throat slit while her younger brother was found injured at their house in West Vinod Nagar in East Delhi on Monday evening.
While prima facie the motive of the murder appeared to be robbery, all angles were being probed, the police said.
The victim has been identified as Sarita. Sarita had married Roshan Bhagat in 2011. About a month ago, she had come to her parents’ house and had been staying there ever since.
On Monday evening around 4-30 p.m. her mother and sister-in-law had left for the nearby market, while Sarita and her brother Manish stayed back. When the two returned an hour later, they found the main entrance of the house open.
On entering the house, they found Sarita and Manish lying injured inside. The house was ransacked. The police suspect that entry of the attackers was friendly. The injured siblings were rushed to the nearby Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital where Sarita was declared brought dead.
“There were injuries around Sarita’s neck from where blood was oozing and it appeared as if her throat had been slit,” said a police officer.
Fifteen-year-old Manish, a Class X student, is undergoing treatment and was not fit to record his statement. The police said his statement could provide vital clues about the assailants.
“While we are looking at it as a robbery-cum-murder case, we are yet to ascertain whether any valuables are missing from the house,” said a police officer. No arrests have been made so far.
The victim’s father works as a civil contractor and has four children.
