A young engineer was killed and five, including a Ranji Trophy player, were injured when their vehicle rammed a road divider and overturned on Vikas Marg here in the early hours of Sunday.

The incident took place when Subhnesh Bishnoi (25), Gurjeet (25), Shubham Bishnoi (19) and three girls were on their way back to Laxmi Nagar around 2 a.m. after a late-night movie in Noida. “Upon reaching Laxmi Nagar, they planned to have ice-cream at India Gate and were heading towards ITO when the driver lost control over the wheel,” said a police officer.

The vehicle allegedly driven by Gurjeet hit the road divider, turned three-four times and crossed over to the other carriageway before it came to a halt. The rear portion of the vehicle was badly damaged and the injured were stuck inside. They were pulled out and rushed to a hospital where Subhnesh was declared dead on arrival. “Gurjeet has been admitted at Bhai Parmanand Hospital with a fractured leg and Shubham, who has played in the Ranji Trophy matches, at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital,” said the officer.

While the left hand of Nikita was severed, two other girls escaped with minor bruises. Nikita was first taken to JPN Hospital from where she has been shifted to another hospital.

Enquiries by the police revealed that Subhnesh, a resident of Rampur in Uttar Pradesh, was an engineering graduate and worked for a private company. The other victims were pursuing studies in various fields. The vehicle belonged to Gurjeet's uncle. The police have registered a case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving and plan to initiate legal action against the erring driver.
