After Delhi University teachers protested outside Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi’s residence on Tuesday, he agreed to meet with elected representative of the DU Teachers’ Association (DUTA) on Wednesday “after a gap of 10 months”.

Service conditions

DUTA members said the action programme was held outside the V-C’s residence to highlight the attack on the service conditions of physical education teachers and librarians, as well as to take up other pressing issues such as appointments with correct roster, promotions (retrospective implementation of API and counting of past service), pension, absorption and confirmation.

After the meeting on Wednesday, DUTA president Nandita Narain said the discussion on physical education teachers and librarians was fruitful and is likely to lead to early resolution.

‘Expresses regret’

“The V-C also informed the delegation that the university would start the recruitment process without further delay,” Ms. Narain added.

She said he expressed regret over not having met DUTA for 10 months and promised regular meetings with the union to take up other pending issues.
