An eight-year-old boy died, while his sister and mother are battling for their lives after his father allegedly tried to poison the entire family over financial worries, the police said.
The 35-year-old man has also been hospitalised.
The case was reported in Farsh Bazar of Central Delhi, where Ajay lived with his wife Ritu (30) and children Vedika (9) and Krishna (8).
Ajay, who used to teach dance, yoga and aerobics in the locality, had been going through a financial crisis for a long time, the police added.
“At about 11 p.m. on Monday, he dissolved some pills in milk and gave it to his family. After they fell unconscious, he slit their throats before slitting his own throat and wrist,” a senior police officer said.
Ajay sent an SMS to his brother-in-law Satbir, delivered at 4 a.m, before attempting suicide. As soon as Satbir received the SMS, he rushed to Ajay’s residence and notified the police as well.
A police team reached the spot and took the family to GTB Hospital, where Krishna was declared dead. Ajay, Ritu and Vedika have been admitted to the ICU. According to the doctors, their condition is critical.
