A woman and her two accomplices were arrested on Wednesday night for the murder of national-level boxer Jitendra Mann who was found dead at his flat in AVJ Heights society, Greater Noida.

The police have seized the murder weapon from the main accused, Shrishti Gupta, who shot the boxer with the help of her ex-boyfriend Imran and his accomplice Nafees. According to the police, the trio allegedly hatched the plot to eliminate Mann as he was blackmailing Gupta over an MMS. The accused were arrested around 10.35 p.m. following a tip-off, said the police.

“After recovering Mann’s body from his flat on January 10, we scanned the CCTV footage of the society and spotted a woman entering the premises around 12.30 p.m. and exiting at 4 p.m. Through technical surveillance and Mann’s call details we found out that he was close to two-three women. The person who came to the society was identified as Gupta, one of the women Mann was in touch with. Following a tip-off on her location, we nabbed her along with her two associates from the T-point near Unitech Horizon society in Greater Noida,” said Suniti, Superintendent of Police (Rural), Gautam Budh Nagar.

Ex-boyfriend help

During interrogation, Gupta revealed that she was in a relationship with Mann and around a month ago he had recorded an obscene video of her in a compromising position without her knowledge. “She further revealed that Mann had started to blackmail her and demanded money and despite several requests he did not delete the clip. In order to get rid of him, Gupta took help from Imran, who was her ex-boyfriend in Bulandshahr. Imran guided her and provided the weapon to execute the crime,” Ms. Suniti said.

The police said Imran runs a slaughterhouse in Bulandshahr and had some knowledge on how to escape police surveillance and arrest. “In a recorded call found on Gupta’s phone, Imran can be heard teaching her how and when to shoot to kill Mann. When Gupta had gone to Mann’s house, Nafees was roaming around the city with Gupta’s phone so that her location would show somewhere else. Imran himself was at Khuraji area with his phone switched off. The three met on Wednesday evening in Noida and were in a mood to escape the city,” Ms. Suniti added.

The police have recovered a .32 bore countrymade pistol, a purse, keys of a flat, five mobile phones sets and woman's clothes with bloodstains from the possession of the three.
