A 24-year-old woman suffered severe burn injuries on the shoulder after two unidentified bike-borne assailants threw acid at her on Tuesday, said the police.
Along with the victim, three other persons, including two women and a man, also suffered burn injuries as the acid splashed everywhere, the police said. They added that the woman’s family members have lodged an FIR against a woman suspecting her involvement behind the attack. The First Information Report names one Anju, the victim’s friend, the police said.
The incident took place in Sahibabad near Mohan Nagar Temple when the victim was going to her workplace in an autorickshaw. She works as an assistant relation manager (ARM) in Punjab National Bank in Ghaziabad, the police added.
When the autorickshaw was near Mohan Nagar Temple, two men on bike chased the vehicle and suddenly one of them sprayed acid on the victim’s face.
“Four passengers in the autorickshaw, including the woman, got sprayed with acid. All of them sustained injuries. The 24-year-old is undergoing treatment at Narinder Mohan Hospital and Heart Centre in Mohan Nagar, while the others were discharged after getting first aid at a nearby hospital,” said Rakesh Kumar Singh, Station House Officer, Sahibabad police station.
Personal enmity
The victim was on good terms with Anju earlier but they later fell out. Anju had allegedly warned the victim of severe consequences, claimed the victim’s family.
The woman had earlier filed a complaint against Anju at a police station in Noida alleging that she had been threatened by her, the police said. “Based on the complaint lodged by her family members, an FIR was registered and the matter is under investigation. However, no arrest has been made so far. A probe has been launched and the accused will be arrested shortly,” he said.
The police have registered a case under Section 326A (punishment for acid throwing).
