A woman was abducted from a prominent south Delhi street and gang-raped late on Saturday night, the police claimed on Sunday.
Four of the accused have been arrested but two are still on the run. The police credited swift arrests in the case to the quick thinking of the complainant's regular auto rickshaw driver, Sonu.
“We received a call about the girl's abduction from Sonu around 2.30 am following which we were able to nab the accused within minutes,” said a senior police officer.
A resident of north east Delhi, the complainant told Sonu she was abducted by six men in a white Santro below the Defence Colony flyover around midnight when he called to enquire when she wanted him to ferry her home like usual.
Soon after the conversation took place around, Sonu alerted the police control room and rushed to the complainant's location.
“He was only able to locate her around two am following which she told him she had been raped and he, in turn, made a PCR call,” the officer said.
A police team followed after which Aman, 26, Deepak, 20, Akash, 23 and Rohit were arrested. They have been booked for abduction, common intention and sexual assault.
