Woman fights abductors, jumps out of moving car

Suffers grievous injuries as her leg was crushed under the rear wheel of the car

March 16, 2013 10:55 am | Updated 10:55 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Dragged out of a public service vehicle and abducted in a car by two persons who tried to sexually assault her, a 24-year-old woman fought fiercely for freedom and jumped out of the moving vehicle in Aman Vihar in Outer Delhi late on Thursday night. The woman suffered grievous injuries in the incident as her leg was crushed under the rear wheel of the car. While the profusely bleeding victim was admitted to a hospital, the police have arrested both the accused.

According to the victim’s mother, her daughter Neera (name changed) left her office in Karol Bagh around 9-30 p.m. and took a Metro train on her way back home. She got off at Nangloi metro station and boarded a Gramin Sewa shuttle vehicle.

“When the vehicle reached near the Nangloi railway crossing, two men in a car intercepted it. One of them held Neera by her hand and dragged her inside the car before closing its door. The other person kept on driving despite her pleas to let her go. My daughter screamed for help and continued her efforts to protect herself,” said the victim’s mother over the phone.

Some distance away on Mubarakpur Road near Prem Nagar-II, the victim somehow managed to push open the car door and tried to jump out. However, one of her hands was firmly gripped by one of the accused travelling on the rear seat due to which the upper half of her body remained inside the car while her legs, which came in contact with the road, kept dragging along as the car moved.

“Even as the vehicle was in motion, one of her legs came under the rear wheel. At this the abductor holding on to her let her go and she fell on the road. The kidnappers drove away while the girl kept screaming for help,” said Neera’s mother.

A little later, a car and a two-wheeler driver passing through the stretch spotted a profusely bleeding Neera. They stopped their vehicles and offered her help.

“They rushed her home where she narrated her ordeal to us. We took her to the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital and informed the police,” said the victim’s mother who added that her daughter’s left foot was crushed.

The victim was referred to Safdarjung Hospital on Friday morning where she is undergoing treatment.

In her statement to the police, the victim disclosed the identity of the two accused as Kuldeep (24) and his driver Deepak (20). Subsequently, the police tracked down Kuldeep to a mall from where he was arrested. At his instance, they arrested the second accused. “Both the accused are residents of Prem Nagar-I in Aman Vihar. Kuldeep owns several Gramin Sewa vehicles,” said a police officer.

During interrogation, Deepak purportedly disclosed that he earlier drove one of the Gramin Sewa vehicles owned by Kuldeep, who has recently entered into property business. The accused persons, who are known to the victim, have been booked for kidnapping, molestation, causing grievous hurt by act endangering life and indulging in an act in furtherance of common intention.
