A 28-year-old woman has been arrested in Anand Vihar here for allegedly drugging her mother-in-law with the intention to kill her and then grab her property.

Anand Vihar resident Reena Singhal lodged a complaint with the police on Saturday saying that her mother-in-law Asha Singhal, 60, had gone to meet her younger son Prateek in Paschim Vihar on August 24 and had not returned.

Taking up investigation, the police made inquiries and found that the neighbours had seen Reena helping her mother-in-law get into a car on August 24.

They suspected Reena, earlier involved in a theft case, who runs dance classes.

Reena was subjected to sustained interrogation and she purportedly confessed to having drugged her mother-in-law and dumped her outside the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

The police team reached AIIMS and found the elderly woman admitted there. She is still unconscious.

During the interrogation, Reena purportedly revealed that her mother-in-law had recently sold her property for huge sum to buy a house in Ghaziabad.

The elderly woman had received part payment and she was to receive the remaining amount on October 3.

Meanwhile, Reena hatched a plan to eliminate the elderly woman and rendered her unconscious by offering her a glass of milk laced with sedatives. Reena purportedly mixed 70 sleeping pills in the glass of milk. After her mother-in-law passed out, Reena hired a cab and dumped the elderly woman on the pavement outside AIIMS mortuary.

A hospital security guard spotted the elderly woman lying unconscious and admitted her to the hospital.

Reena's husband is physically challenged.
