A 25-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by two men in a moving car and subsequently dumped at Kalkaji here in the early hours of Wednesday. Two men, including the live-in partner of the victim, have been detained.

It was an auto-rickshaw driver who made a call to the police informing them about a woman in unkempt clothes wandering about aimlessly near the Nehru Place flyover. A team reached the spot and took her to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

A medical examination confirmed that the woman had been sexually assaulted.

Since the woman was not fit for statement, the police had to wait for a few hours before they could zero in on the identity of the suspects. Later on Wednesday, the victim was provided counselling and her mother was informed.

In her statement, the victim purportedly told the police that she was a resident of Geeta Colony and had been living there with her partner. “It was her partner who offered to take her for a joyride on Tuesday evening. As she get into the car, she found two other men, both friends of her partner, already inside,” said the officer.

The victim said she sat on the rear seat and on the way the men stopped to buy a bottle of soft drink. She was offered the drink after consuming which she felt giddy and soon passed out.

It is suspected that two of her co-passengers took turns to rape her while she was unconscious.

“Thereafter, she was dumped in Kalkaji where the auto-rickshaw driver noticed her and informed the police,” said the officer.

The victim’s mother also lives in East Delhi with a woman relative. She had moved in with the relative after the victim’s father passed away a few years ago. The relative, it is learnt, is posted as a constable with the Delhi Police.

Efforts are on to trace the third person, who was driving the vehicle in which the victim was allegedly raped.
