Upset over constant fights with her husband, a woman allegedly drowned her two minor children — a five-year-old daughter and an 11-month-old son — before hanging herself at her house in East Delhi’s Mandawali on Wednesday.
Savita (30) had married Devender Yadav eight years ago and their children Paridhara and Rudraksh were born in 2007 and 2012 respectively. Paridhara was mentally-challenged and differently-abled. She had not been enrolled in any school despite being over five years of age.
According to the police, Mr. Yadav told them that he and his wife fought constantly over the last few years.
“He told us that he had an argument with his wife on Tuesday night, after which they did not speak to each other. He left for office in the morning and tried to call Savita in the afternoon. When all calls went unanswered, he got a suspicious and decided to go to home to check on her. He found the door latched from inside,” said a police officer.
Mr. Yadav purportedly broke open the door, only to find Savita hanging from the ceiling fan and the submerged bodies of Paridhara and Rudraksh in the washer of a semi-automatic washing machine and a bucket respectively.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
Mr. Yadav, who works as a textile designer, lives on the first floor of the two-storey house where the incident took place. The remaining two floors are occupied by other family members, said the police. His mother and the family of his elder brother Virender live on the ground floor, whereas his sister lives on the second floor with her husband.
