Woman attacked with acid in Punjabi bagh

July 16, 2013 10:01 am | Updated June 12, 2016 10:18 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

A 47-year-old woman sustained burns after four men allegedly threw acid at her in Punjabi Bagh here on Sunday. The accused men are related to another woman who, too, became a victim of acid attack last month.

According to the complainant, Suresh Yadav, she was on her way to Jwala Heri market when four persons on a two-wheeler threw acid at her. She was taken to a nearby hospital with burns in her back. “She had sustained superficial burns and was discharged after treatment. We have registered a case on her complaint and initiated investigations. The woman has alleged that two brothers, the brother-in-law and a male friend of one Kamini were involved in the incident,” said a police officer.

Police enquiries revealed that Kamini was also targeted in the same manner by some persons at Khyala about a month ago. While one of the accused in that case was arrested by the police, the other three — Lilaram Chauhan and his two sons — recently surrendered in court. “We have learnt that Suresh is close to Lilaram’s family,” said the officer, adding that personal enmity angle to the case was also being probed.

The >alleged incident comes days after the Supreme Court pulled up the Centre for not formulating a policy to regulate/ban retail sale of acid across the country, expressing serious concern over acid attacks.
