Swati Garg was saved by the skin of her teeth after she jumped in front of an incoming metro train at the Dilshad Garden station here on Thursday. This was the second time she tried to commit suicide by jumping in front of a metro train.

According to Delhi Metro Corporation officials, the 40-year-old woman jumped in front of a train that was approaching the down platform of Line 1 (Dilshad Garden-Rithala) at 10-14 a.m.

Luckily the train operator spotted her in time. “The train operator immediately applied emergency brakes as a result of which the woman was safely rescued from the tracks by the station staff. After first aid she was sent to GTB Hospital,” the official said.

Following the incident, her husband Rohan Garg was informed and a complaint was made to the local police.

“Earlier also the same woman was caught by the DMRC staff through the CCTV when she jumped on the track at the Mansarovar Park metro station on August 30. She was handed over to the Delhi Metro Rail Police at that time also,” said the official.

“It appears she is under some mental stress or could be suffering from a disorder. We were told that the doctors have referred her to VIMHANS for further examination.”

There was no disruption of train services on Line 1 due to the incident as the up platform of Dilshad Garden metro station was used for receiving trains coming from the Rithala side.
