Having endured a week of blistering heat, Delhiites were in for some relief on Saturday evening when strong winds exceeding 39 km/hour kicked up a dust storm and brought the temperature down.
Forecast for dust storm
Following the dust storm, the mercury in the Capital dipped to 33.6 degrees Celsius around 5.30 p.m. Earlier, the maximum temperature in Delhi was 39.2 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's average while the minimum was 28.9 degrees Celsius, six notches above the season's average. The weather office forecast a dust storm on Sunday also.
India Meteorological Department scientist Ravinder Vishen said: “Dusty winds brought relief from a hot day and temperatures will come to normal as per the season's average for the next four to five days. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 39 and 26 degrees Celsius respectively.’’
Friday's maximum settled at 40.2 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average, while the minimum was 28.9 degrees, six notches above the season's average. On Thursday, the city recorded the hottest day of this year at a maximum of 43.2 degrees Celsius, five notches above the season's average.
