Rajrani Sehrawat — the wife of Bhupinder Sehrawat alias Monu Dariyapur — seemed a content person on Thursday when she received news of the arrest of her husband’s alleged murderer.
When the police informed her, she immediately called her father-in-law Phool Singh Sehrawat in Daryapur Khud village and told him, “ Usey utha liya hai [He’s been arrested]”. Ever since her cousin Satyawan Sehrawat alias Sonu Dariyapur, allegedly murdered her husband, Ms. Rajrani has been waiting for his arrest.
On Thursday, she told The Hindu that she knew it was going to happen sooner or later and that she was never afraid of him while he was on the run. “I never was and never will be scared of him. He killed my husband by tricking him but won’t ever be able to do that to me,” she said.
‘Trust judiciary’
Ms. Sehrawat alleged that Sonu wanted to kill her and her husband because the two got married against his wishes. However, she said she is ready to face him head on, adding that her faith in the police and judiciary is immense.
She claimed she helped with the police probe whenever possible. “I was in constant touch with officers of the Special Cell. I have informed them of his possible hideouts at least five times since the murder,” she said.
Ms. Sehrawat now stays in Paschim Vihar, where she lived with her husband before he was fatally shot over 20 times on April 30 this year.
Now, she said, her aim in life is to fulfil the dreams of her 9-year-old son and care for her parents-in-law.
“I run an NGO, ‘Help Others’, that Monu had started. My mother-in-law lives with me and now I only live for my son, to make him a man I can be proud of,” she said.
The 31-year-old was given police protection in 2006 after the first alleged attack by Sonu on the couple. Now, she has three security officers guarding her.
Calling the reason for her husband’s murder “silly”, Ms. Sehrawat said Sonu did not approve of their love and marriage because the couple were from the same village Daryapur Khurd.
