“Why did it take 10 days to respond?”

Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday called the BJP “irresponsible” for neither being able to handle the ongoing power crisis nor allowing government formation in the national Capital.

“BJP neither able to handle power crisis nor forming government nor allowing elections in Delhi. Completely irresponsible,” Mr. Kejriwal tweeted on Tuesday.

The AAP also asked Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal why it took 10 days for him to respond to the crisis affecting the Capital city. “It is shocking that it took the Central Government more than 10 days to wake up after a thunderstorm had hit the Capital, which is now being described as the major reason behind the destruction of electricity transmission lines, leading to long power cuts,” said the party.

The party also urged Mr. Goyal to fix responsibility for the power crisis instead of just blaming the previous Sheila Dikshit’s regime for it in Delhi.

“Mr. Piyush Goyal needs to be reminded that the former Congress-government led by Ms. Dikshit was shown the door by the people for being hand in glove with the private power distribution companies (discoms) and his government too, cannot get away by merely blaming her regime,” the party added.

The Kejriwal-led party also demanded that the consumers needed to be informed a day in advance about power cuts. “The AAP does not agree with the Power Minister’s views that the discoms will have to provide details about the power cuts at 8 a.m. every day. The party demands that in case of any power cuts, the public must be informed at least 24 hours in advance,” the AAP said.
