Kin of several whistleblowers and officers targeted by the organised mafia for exposing corrupt practices in different parts of the country are expected to be present at the day-long fast by social activist Anna Hazare at Jantar Mantar here on Sunday.
“Families of Indian Oil Corporation sales officer S. Manjunath, National Highways Authority of India project director Satyendra Kumar Dubey and father of IPS officer Narender Kumar, who was killed recently by mining mafia, have confirmed their presence at the demonstration. Besides, several Right To Information activists and whistleblowers who are being victimised for raising their voice against corruption are also expected to turn up,” said Team Anna media coordinator Aswathi Muralitharan.
Mr. Hazare will hold a day-long fast at Jantar Mantar here on Sunday demanding a strong Lokpal Bill.
“We have worked hard to mobilise the people for the demonstration and tried to reach out to the maximum number of people by distributing pamphlets and sending text messages. It is difficult to say how many people may turn up, but we are expecting a good gathering,” she said.
As per the programme, Mr. Hazare will offer prayer at Raj Ghat around 9.30 a.m. before reaching Jantar Mantar around 11 a.m.
“The day-long protest will end by 6 p.m. Though the police have not imposed any major restrictions, they have advised us not to put up the stage in the middle of the road,” she said.
Team Anna members Arvind Kejriwal, Kiran Bedi, Santosh Hedge, Shanti Bhushan, will also be present.
“Prashant Bhushan and Kumar Vishwas are out of town and will not be able to make it to the demonstration.”
Meanwhile, the police have made adequate security arrangements to avoid any untoward incident.
