West Delhi: ₹4.25 cr in old notes seized

Delhi Police Crime Branch purportedly seized demonetised currency notes with face value of ₹4.25 crore from the office of a chit-fund company owner in west Delhi’s Janakpuri. The police are questioning one Anil Jain, the owner of the company.

A senior police officer confirmed the seizure of demonetised banknotes from Jain’s office.

According to the officer, Jain had collected the banned notes in denomination with ₹1,000 and ₹500 printed on them after promising them to get the notes exchanged with valid banknotes charging a 50 per cent commission on the original value.of the notes

“Jain had planned to hire a cash van to transport the scrapped notes. We are questioning him to know the contact through which he had claimed to get the notes exchanged,” said the officer.

Another officer said that they raided Jain’s office after their informers shared information that a chit fund company owner was collecting demonetised banknotes from businessmen after promising them to get them exchanged on commission basis.
