Wedding rush on 11-12-13

The last sequential date of the century was regarded auspicious

December 12, 2013 02:27 am | Updated 02:27 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Several couples in the city opted to have their babies delivered on “11.12.13,” and weddings were aplenty in the Capital on the last sequential date of the 21st century on Wednesday.

Dr. Anita Kant, Head of the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department, Asian Institute of Medical Sciences, helped deliver five babies on this date and had one lady in the labour room at night.

“Around three couples were scheduled to have their babies delivered by Caesarean operation and, out of them, one mother’s birthday fell on this date while the other two women wanted to deliver on this date itself. Two mothers, however, delivered naturally on this day,” she said.

Meanwhile, most wedding halls throughout the city were booked to capacity and the Delhi Traffic Police had to deploy additional manpower to deal with traffic jams in areas such as Pragati Maidan, Punjabi Bagh, Dwarka Link Road, Vikas Marg, Chhatarpur and Vasant Kunj.
