“Love [ ishq ] and politics cannot be without conditions,” Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal said here on Sunday. He was responding to the Congress submitting a letter to the Delhi Lt. Governor extending “unconditional support” to the AAP that won 28 seats in the recent Assembly elections.
As the deadlock on government formation in Delhi continued, Mr. Kejriwal urged the Congress and the BJP not to “play politics.”
Addressing a press conference here, he said he was awaiting a response from the two parties on the 18 points on which the AAP wanted to build consensus.
“If the Congress has extended unconditional support to us, then why is it not agreeing to our 18 demands? After all, these problems are their creation,” he said.
As for the BJP, he said, its offer of ‘constructive support’, in reality meant that “in two days they will pull down the government.”
“We are not running [away] from responsibility. We want to expose these two parties,” Mr. Kejriwal said.
The BJP, which has won 31 of the 70 seats but expressed its inability to form the government, and the Congress, which has just 8 seats in its kitty, have both charged the AAP with not being interested in forming the government as it may not be able to fulfil its promises.
“Let these parties not do politics. Let them respond to my letter on 18 points on which there should be consensus. After that, we will take a decision,” Mr. Kejriwal said.
The AAP has sought 10 days’ time from the Lt. Governor to decide on government formation.
