The Delhi Jal Board is gearing to put up information related to water supply and its non-availability on an everyday basis on its website. The decision comes in the wake of an order by the Central Information Commission to the Jal Board.
According to Jal Board officials, the CIC has asked the water utility to ensure that the timings of water supply in all parts of the city can be accessed by the residents on the DJB website.
“As of now we do announce the schedule of water supply disruptions in the media, but now we are working on the possibility of notifying the supply timings on the website as well,” said Dharam Pal, Member Finance and Administration of the DJB.
He said work on the project is still under way, but the Jal Board is hopeful that it will be able to meet the February 28 deadline set by the CIC for implementation of the order.
Hearing a petition filed by a consumer the CIC had asked the Jal Board to post timings of water supply on its website by February 28 and update the same for changes.
The Commission had pointed out that information like this should be part of mandatory proactive disclosure as it comes under the information about functions and duties of the organisations displayed in public medium.
“We have discussed the issue with the chief engineers and are working out the details of how the necessary information can be uploaded on the website,” said Mr. Pal.
He went on to add that the Jal Board was also working out a plan for introducing revenue management whereby consumers will be able to pay their bills online and also assess the details of their water consumption and other related issues.
