Members of the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party in the Delhi Assembly once again raised the issue of acute water crisis in the Capital leading to minor disruption of proceedings.
Party MLA from Bijwasan Sat Prakash Rana was vociferous in bringing the water woes of his constituency to the fore when he recollected the hardships faced by women and children in his area.
Mr. Rana’s comments followed BJP MLA from Sangam Vihar S.C.L. Gupta’s remarks on the acute water crisis in his constituency.
Assurance
“Can the Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit give us an assurance that the water problem will be solved?” asked Mr. Rana repeatedly during ‘Special Mention’, in which the Ministers are not bound to furnish a reply.
When Ms. Dikshit did not respond, Mr. Rana and BJP MLA from Palam Dharam Dev Solanki took to the well in protest.
“We are asking on behalf of the people of our constituency?” said Mr. Rana, demanding an answer from Ms. Dikshit.
Inaudible
The ruckus created by the two MLAs temporarily stalled the session rendering BSP MLA from Gokulpur Chaudhury Surender Kumar’s question inaudible. Speaker Yoganand Shastri later read a short statement: “The Chief Minister during the Assembly session on March 14 had said that she will hold discussions on the water problems before the end of the budget session. The legislators are requested to work out an appropriate time and visit her chamber to discuss this issue.”
