A 24-year-old wanted criminal has been arrested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch for his alleged involvement in several cases of kidnapping for ransom, attempt to murder, dacoity and others. The Uttar Pradesh Police had declared a reward of ₹50,000 on his arrest.

Jitender Choudhary alias Kanja, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested on Saturday after the police received a tip-off of his arrival near a CNG pump station on Kanjhawala Road.

During interrogation, Jitender told the police that he started committing crime after falling into bad company.

The police said that he has seven cases of attempt to murder and robbery registered against him in UP.

“He committed a dacoity of ₹50 lakh from a merchant in Agra. He was released from jail in December 2016 after which he joined Ajay Jadeja gang with his associate Vinod Jat, a dismissed police constable of the UP Police,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Joy Tirkey.

The police said that in July 2017, “Vinod and Jitender lifted an SUV from Agra and used it in a kidnapping in Jhansi. “They kidnapped businessmen Raju Kamraya and Rahul Agarwal and asked for ₹25crore as ransom. The police managed to rescue the victims 12 days later. While Vinod was arrested, Jitender fled,” said Mr Tirkey.
