A criminal wanted in several cases was arrested on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in snatching incidents across the country.

Tip-off

The police have recovered a bike, a pistol, two live cartridges and three gold chains from his possession. Salman (24) was arrested after a tip-off regarding his arrival in north-east Delhi’s Jafrabad. There was a bounty of ₹1 lakh for information leading to his arrest.

“He was arrested after a brief encounter,” said DCP (north-east) Ajit Kumar Singla.

The police said Salman, who ran a gang of snatchers since 2010, was arrested several times till 2014 but had managed to evade arrest since then.

“He had attacked a policeman in Uttar Pradesh, following which the officer was in hospital for over a month,” he said.

Salman, also wanted in a Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act case, used to change his associates constantly to commit snatching and robberies in various cities, including Hyderabad and Mumbai.
