Very few institutes of higher education from Odisha have figured in the top 100 institutes of the country as the India Rankings 2016, the first-ever ranking framework for higher education institutions carried out by Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, was declared on Monday.

Not a single State government-run institute of higher learning from Odisha has made it to the list. Sources said only a few of the 16 universities from the State had registered themselves to be ranked in the first-ever ranking conducted by the MHRD.

While two universities -- Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University and KIIT University -- have been ranked in the first 100 institutes, six institutes in the category of engineering (research and teaching) have been placed in the list.

Nationally, SOA, Bhubaneswar, with 60.81 score has been ranked 26 while the same city-based KIIT University, which has earned 60.09 points, has been placed at 53 rank.

Seemanta Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Baripada, is the only institute which has been ranked in the pharmacy category. No institute of management studies has secured a rank in the first 100 institutes in the country.

With 70.80 score, National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, is the only institute which has found its name in the list of first 20 engineering colleges of the country.

Other engineering colleges which have been place in first 100 spots include Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar, (26), Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneswar, (32), National Institute Science and Technology, Berhampur, (69), CV Raman College of Engineering, Bhubaneswar, (74) and Centurion Institute of Technology (81).
