Sri Venkateswara College, which was declared a “Centre with Potential for Excellence” in 2004, will evolve into a centre of excellence over the coming years, Principal P. Hemalatha Reddy said here on Wednesday.
“To this end, we will enhance our academic exchange and research activities,” Dr. Reddy said at a press conference held here to brief reporters about the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the college over the year.
President Pratibha Patil will launch the festivities of the college which was established by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy, Rajya Sabha member M. S. Swaminathan and others will be present at the function on August 17.
The college has chalked out a host of activities to celebrate its 50{+t}{+h} year. Lecture series will be held in all disciplines while the annual economic summit of the college will see participation from SAARC nations as well as other countries. Two symposiums have been scheduled in addition to a national conference on public policy and delivery in post-reform India, inter-collegiate cultural and sports festivals and exhibition.
Exchange programmes for students and faculty are also in the pipeline. The college alumni association is planning a series of events for the jubilee year.
“We have applied to the University Grants Commission for a Golden Jubilee library block. Our faculty has several achievements to its credit ,” Dr. Reddy said, adding that its students were excelling in various fields.
