A vegetable vendor and his wife have been arrested along with their three accomplices for allegedly pushing their minor daughter into prostitution to pay back debts.
The vegetable vendor and his wife had gone to the North Delhi police station on September 25 to lodge a complaint saying that their minor daughter had gone missing. A kidnapping case was registered and the girl was eventually traced.
But the case turned on its head when the minor victim purportedly told the police that her own parents had pushed her into prostitution to pay back their debts and make easy money.
“The vegetable vendor was not doing well in his business and had incurred huge debts. He then connived with his wife to bring their elder daughter to Delhi on the pretext of providing her good education and allegedly pushed her into prostitution with the help of pimp Ravinder alias Master. When the girl protested, her parents beat her up and she was left with no option but to succumb to their wishes,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) B.S. Jaiswal.
Realising that they could earn more money this way, the parents allegedly entered into a contract with Ravinder to hand over the girl for a stipulated period of time in return for a good consideration of money. Ravinder then handed over the girl to another pimp Shanno in Moradabad and the woman further handed over the minor victim to Sambhal-based pimp Sachin Rastogi, the police said. Meanwhile, the parents continued to get their share in the earnings made through the girl.
One day the girl escaped from the clutches of Sachin and took shelter at some place as a destitute to save herself from her parents.
The parents searched for her frantically, but she could not be traced. They then decided to take help of the police and lodged a complaint.
After the truth was revealed by the girl, the police arrested her parents along with Ravinder, Shanno and Sachin. The girl will now be produced before Child Welfare Committee and counselled for rehabilitation.
