Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan led a cleanliness drive at Turkman Gate in the Walled City on Monday. The Chandni Chowk MP was accompanied by civic officials, community leaders and BJP workers.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Vardhan said: “I thought that the auspicious day of Eid ul-Azha should be the most appropriate for launching a social movement centred around sanitation and health.”

Dr. Vardhan walked through Old Delhi, from Turkman Gate to Haj Manzil, Phatak Teliyan, Shankar Gali, Chaurasi Ghanta, Sitaram Bazar, Kucha Maidass, Lal Darwaza, Gali Sheesh Mahal and Hauz Qazi.

The Minister picked up trash along the way and inspected public toilets. He also directed North Delhi Municipal Corporation Commissioner Pravin Kumar Gupta and the engineering staff to repair five toilets in the neighbourhood as they were in a dilapidated state. He further demanded that more toilets should be constructed as the area does not have a sufficient number.
