Enraged by his pregnant wife’s frequent taunts over his unemployed status, a 20-year-old man in East Delhi’s Kalyanpuri on Sunday allegedly stabbed her to death, thus also terminating the twin nine-month-old foetuses she was carrying.
The sudden fit of rage followed a minor altercation between the couple who got married last year, said the police.
According to the police, the accused Vikrant and the victim Neeta were both living with Vikrant’s family. It is learnt that Vikrant’s unemployment and his reluctance to join his father’s well-established cable business would often lead to heated discussions and even fights between the couple.
A similar argument broke out around 9 p.m. on Sunday after the family had dinner and in the heat of the moment Vikrant went to the kitchen and came back with a knife. He then attacked Neeta and stabbed her repeatedly, killing her on the spot, said the police.
Hearing the commotion, neighbours gathered near the house and a call was made to the Police Control Room.
When the police reached there, they found Vikrant sitting next to his wife’s body and subsequently arrested him.
Hospital
The victim was then rushed to a nearby hospital where it was found that there were two foetuses in her womb, both destroyed due to the attack.
Neeta hailed from a village in Greater Noida while Vikrant was enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts programme through correspondence. In a similar incident in South-West Delhi’s Najafgarh on Saturday, a young man had strangled his wife and later surrendered to the police.
