Under-trial escapes from police custody

A high risk under-trial prisoner lodged in Tihar Central Jail here escaped from police custody in Hari Nagar on Tuesday.

Naresh (27), who was lodged in Central Jail No. 8, was being taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital when he hoodwinked the escort team and escaped. According to the First Information Report, Head Constable Rajender Singh and constable Sumer of 3 Battalion were waiting for the jail van to take Naresh to hospital around 10-30 a.m. when he went to a nearby toilet to relieve himself. The policemen were keeping an eye on him from a distance when Naresh suddenly scaled the boundary wall of an adjoining school building and ran away. The two policemen tried to chase him, but in vain.

Naresh is facing trial in murder and attempt to murder cases. He is a resident of Baprola village in Najafgarh.

A case has been registered under Sections 223 (escape from confinement) and 224 (resistance by a person to his lawful apprehension) of the IPC.
