South Delhi’s information technology hub, Nehru Place, is all set to get an additional metro station under Delhi Metro’s Phase-III constructions. The new station is expected to cater to 20,000 commuters every day by 2016.

While Nehru Place is currently an important station on the Violet Line (Central Secretariat-Badarpur corridor), it is slated to get an additional station, linking it to the Janakpuri West–Botanical Garden corridor, which will directly connect the area to the satellite town of Noida and the domestic terminal of Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The new underground station will be constructed on Outer Ring Road opposite Paras Cinema and will have five entry and exit points including a subway across the busy Outer Ring Road. While one entry point will be made just near Paras Cinema, the other will come up on the road leading up to Lady Shriram College and three other entry points will be built near Nehru Enclave as well as the Veer Savarkar School near Nehru Place. However, there will not be any direct connectivity with the existing elevated metro station at Nehru Place.

The tender for the civil construction of the new station has already been floated and the contract is expected to be awarded by next month. By the end of the year, construction is slated to begin. The station which will help commuters from nearby areas such as Nehru Enclave, Kalkaji and Chittaranjan Park is expected to see a footfall of over 19,500 in 2016 according to the Detailed Project Report. By 2031, more than 30,000 commuters will be benefited by this connectivity.
