Uber and Ola drivers called off their strike after 13 days following reassurances that most of their demands will be fulfilled.
The Sarvodaya Drivers’ Association of Delhi (SDAD), which was spearheading the protests in Delhi-NCR, said the strike had been called off on Thursday.
Strike off till Feb 27
“The strike has been called off till February 27, as app-based cab aggregators have sought time to resolve their issues,” said SDAD vice-president Ravi Rathore.
The development comes after the Delhi government called a meeting with the striking drivers and representatives of Uber and Ola. The meeting lasted for nearly four hours.
Driver denied duty rule
He said: “An Ola representative assured us that the driver denied duty rule, under which a ₹500 fine is imposed on a driver for refusing to ferry a passenger, will be done away with. They also agreed to increase fares from the existing ₹6 per km.”
On demand for removal of toll charges at borders, the government said it will take up the matter with the municipal agencies.
Commuters in Delhi-NCR faced hardships in booking cabs as drivers of Ola and Uber had gone on an indefinite strike in favour of their demands on February 10.
