Two young men were killed and one was seriously injured when their vehicle rammed into a truck on Moti Bagh flyover in South Delhi in the early hours of Sunday.

Rahul Walia (23), Prashant Mehta (23) and their friend Harpratap Gill (23) were crossing the Moti Bagh flyover when the accident took place around 4 a.m. “They were going towards All-India Institute of Medical Sciences. It was raining and the vehicle was speeding when it hit the truck from behind,” said a police officer. The broken down truck was being towed away by another vehicle.

The three injured were rushed to AIIMS' Trauma Centre where Rahul was declared dead on arrival. Prashant succumbed to his injuries later. “Harpratap has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. We are yet to record his statement to ascertain how it all happened, who was driving the car and where they were headed for when the accident took place,” said the officer.

Enquiries by the police revealed that all the three belonged to Chandigarh.

Rahul assisted his father in his share-broking business and Prashant worked for a private company in neighbouring Gurgaon.

The police contacted the relatives of the two deceased, in whose presence post-mortem was conducted and the bodies were handed over to them around 11 a.m.

A case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered at the South Campus police station. The mangled vehicle has been impounded.
