: A day after Bandana Kumari resigned as the Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly, sources in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday said that a woman legislator would fill up the post. Chandni Chowk MLA Alka Lamba and Palam MLA Bhavna Gaur are the front-runners.

“A woman legislator will be made the Deputy Speaker,” said a source close to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The decision will be taken this week.

“A Cabinet reshuffle will also take place,” he added.

Mrs. Kumari was the sole female member in Mr. Kejriwal’s Cabinet.

Her resignation, however, hasn’t shocked AAP leaders. Party volunteers had complained that Mrs. Kumari and husband Sajjan Kumar had worked against the AAP candidate in the municipal by-polls in the Shalimar Bagh constituency.

“Her husband is considered close to the BJP leaders in the area,” said sources.

Last year, the Delhi Police had lodged an FIR against Mrs. Kumari and her husband for allegedly putting pressure on a school principal to admit a student.
