Five arrested and two absconding
Two women were gang raped in a moving car in Gurgaon in the early hours of Thursday. Five persons have been arrested in this connection and two are absconding. All the accused are cab drivers.
The two women, who are in their late 20s, hired a Toyota Corolla cab from outside the Club 18 pub in Vipul Agora Mall on the Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road to their Tughlakabad house in Delhi around 12: 30 a.m., said the police.
After travelling some distance, the cab driver turned towards Faridabad from under the Dronacharya Metro Station and stopped the cab in an isolated place, where two men, who were waiting, got in.
“The driver drove towards Faridabad while the two men raped the two women.
“The accused then called their friends who reached in a Tata Indica car, but one of the victims managed to get away. She then made a call to the Police Control Room from the cell phone of a security guard. The other victim got down at another point and contacted the first victim,” said Gurgaon Police Commissioner Alok Mittal.
Based on the information provided by the two victims and clues gathered during the investigation, a Gurgaon Police team led by Joint Commissioner of Police Maheshwar Dayal arrested five persons from different parts of the city.
Those arrested have been identified as Devender, Pramod, Harish, Satish alias Mota and Devender Kumar. “The remaining two accused have also been identified and teams have been sent to search for them. All the seven accused are cab drivers working for different companies and know each other. Two of them are even related. All of them reside at Nathupur village in rented accommodations,” said Mr. Mittal.
The officer said according to the victims only two of the seven accused raped them. “The Tata Indica used in the crime has been seized. Four of those arrested were travelling in the Tata Indica when the incident took place. The other person was in the Toyota,” he said.
A Gurgaon Police source said that both the victims work at a bar in Gurgaon.
