To help students from the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and those belonging to reserved categories prepare for postgraduate entrance examinations, Delhi University will organise a pre-entrance summer school free of cost.
Announcing the initiative, the DU Registrar said: “Academic empowerment of students from socio-economically weaker sections has been a commitment of DU towards inclusive growth of society. Over the past two years, we have been conducting a programme to help students appearing in entrance examinations for various postgraduate [PG] programmes. This year as well, classes will be held to prepare students for the academic approach to be adopted for clearing the entrance examination and benefit aspirants who wish to pursue higher education.”
This year, classes will be held in eight disciplines — commerce, law, journalism (Hindi and English), chemistry, physics, maths, computer science and zoology — for two weeks. Applicants will have to register for PG entrance examination and then download the application form for DU pre-entrance summer schools from the university portal. The form will have to be filled and submitted to the Institute of Lifelong Learning, North Campus, from May 21 to May 28 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., except on Sunday.
Admission to the summer school will be on a first come, first served basis owing to a limited number of seats. Names of selected candidates will be announced on May 30 at 5 p.m.
A tentative schedule has been rolled out, which states that classes for commerce, zoology, law, journalism (Hindi and English), chemistry and physics will start on June 1. Preparatory classes for computer science will begin on June 4 and maths on June 6. All classes will held at North Campus.
Registration fee
Students who wish to attend the summer classes will be charged a nominal registration fee of ₹100. Students from the EWS, BPL, SC/ST, OBC and minorities are among those eligible to apply.
Kashmiri migrants, wards of war widows or ex-servicemen (Defence) and differently abled students may also apply.
