Both the accused have been arrested: Police

A 21-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly by his brothers-in-law in Mangolpuri here on Thursday over an inter-caste marriage. The accused have been arrested.

The police received a call on Thursday around 9 a.m. saying that a man was stabbed near Masjid in Mangolpuri “P” Block. When the police reached the spot, they found a man lying in a pool of blood with several stab injuries. He was declared brought dead at a hospital.

Further investigation revealed that the victim, Ranvir, and his neighbour Jyoti had married on April 17 against the wishes of their parents. The families were against the marriage as the two belonged to different castes.

But the matter was soon sorted out and Jyoti’s parents brought her back to their house on the promise of soon solemnising their marriage according to the social and religious rituals. But Jyoti’s brothers, Rahul (18) and Gaurav (22), were not happy with the decision and were fed up with the taunts of the neighbours.

The provocation came when Ranvir, who studies at Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, visited Jyoti on Wednesday. Rahul and Gaurav warned Ranvir against meeting Jyoti before their marriage was solemnised.

The two then hatched a plan to eliminate Ranvir, the police said.

As per the plan, Rahul and Gaurav went to Ranvir’s house in the morning and took him along on some pretext. Ranvir’s sister Kavita also followed them suspecting something was amiss. She noticed that after walking some distance, Gaurav allegedly caught Ranvir and Rahul attacked him with a knife. When Kavita raised an alarm, the duo fled the spot leaving a profusely bleeding Ranvir behind.

The accused were arrested from a park in Block “Y” Mangolpuri in the evening when they went to meet an acquaintance.

Rahul is studying in Class 12 at a government school in Mangolpuri. Gaurav helps his father in running a shop.
