Two young women, both sisters, allegedly committed suicide at their residence in Outer Delhi’s Rohini on Wednesday afternoon.

Initial investigation has indicated that the duo was upset with their brother and sister-in-law’s behaviour towards them. A hand-written note reportedly found pinned to the garments of one of the sisters, which was found on Thursday, suggests the same, the police said.

Suicide note found

“We are verifying the contents of the note. So far, no abetment case has been registered,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Vikramjit Singh.

Mystery surrounds the incident, which took place hours after the sisters — Seema (26) and Parul (24) — returned from a trip to Haridwar. They were reportedly asked to return by their brother, Aryan Chowdhary, and his wife, Naina.

The matter came to light around 3.30 p.m., nearly an hour after the two sisters locked themselves in a room in the 2-BHK flat in Sector-23, Rohini. Repeated knocks and calls by the couple and their children went unanswered. Naina’s father was reportedly in the house at this point.

“We called up the police, who broke opened the door. Once inside, we saw that they had hanged themselves from a single ceiling fan using two dupattas,” said Aryan.

The police said the women had returned from Haridwar early on Wednesday morning. “After breakfast, they went outside and came back around 9.30 a.m. They then locked themselves in a room,” said the officer.

Aryan said that initially he presumed the sisters were tired and asleep. However, he grew suspicious when Seema and Parul did not come out of the room despite several hours passing.

He also claimed that there was no bad blood between him and his wife and the sisters.

“There was nothing unpleasant that happened on the day of the incident either. Everything was normal till they went inside the room,” he said, saying internal differences between the sisters could have forced them into a suicide pact.

The police, however, said the sisters had been complaining to friends and relatives about Naina not being cordial with them. Also, the sisters reportedly felt they did not get the kind of love and care they had expected from their brother after the demise of their parents.

Seema, a B.Com graduate, used to teach at a private school in Rohini Sector 24, whose name Aryan could not recall, while Parul had discontinued studies after finishing school a few years ago. Aryan is a businessman dealing in garments and had married Naina, his second wife, a few years ago.

No FIR was registered till late Thursday night.
